Overview:
The Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce is a member based non-profit organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director.  The organization supports Cochrane and area businesses through programming, the provision of key learning opportunities, business promotion and advocacy as well as providing key partnerships to support business growth and leadership development. 

The Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Coordinator & Graphic Designer to help amplify our digital presence and effectively communicate with our members and community. This role is perfect for a contractor with a passion for storytelling, design, and social media strategy, looking for a flexible opportunity to work with a dynamic organization.
This primarily remote role reports to the Executive Director, who is responsible to the Board of Directors.
The successful candidate will be based in Cochrane Alberta.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Social Media:
  • Develop and schedule engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to promote Chamber events, member businesses, and community initiatives.
  • Social posting includes 2 posts and 1 reel per week per platform.
  • Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages, and foster an online community that aligns with the Chamber's mission.
  • Stay updated on social media trends and recommend strategies to improve reach and engagement.
  • Attend some events in and around Cochrane
  1. Graphic Design:
  • Design visually appealing graphics for digital and print, including event flyers, social media posts, banners, and promotional materials, adhering to the Chamber's branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Chamber team to create compelling visuals for newsletters, presentations, and other marketing collateral.
  • Maintain a library of graphic assets for future use.
  1. Content Strategy & Planning:
  • Assist in developing a content calendar to ensure consistent and strategic communication with members and the community.
  • Implement strategies provided by the Executive Director under the direction of the board.
  • Tailor messaging to target audiences and align with the Chamber’s goals.
  • Provide input on creative ways to increase brand awareness and membership engagement.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in social media management and graphic design.
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and analytics tools.
  • Excellent communication and copywriting skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • A creative mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with nonprofits or member-based organizations is a plus.
  • Current post-secondary students will be considered.
Hours & Compensation:
  • Approximately 25 hours per month, with some variation during peak periods.
  • Compensation: 20 dollars per hour.
  • Flexible working hours with regular check-ins during standard business hours.
  • This is a 12-month contract with opportunity to renew.
