Description
Your business is often your largest asset. But is it protected? Are you protected? What about your staff?
Join us for a luncheon where Cochrane’s finest experts dive into the risks you face — and how to manage them with confidence.
Meet the Risky Business Panel:
Carter Nagel – Lawyer
For over 30 years, Carter has been an entrepreneurial force in the legal world, blending technology and a client-first approach to deliver practical solutions. His journey spans serving as in-house counsel for a Western Canadian property developer, working with a Las Vegas tech startup, and founding multiple law firms across two provinces.
Carter saw firsthand how businesses struggle to find the right legal support — which inspired him to create Best Lawyer For The Job, an online platform connecting business owners with lawyers who fit their unique needs. Based here in Cochrane, Carter’s hybrid practice, Nagel Law, works with a broad network of professionals to provide comprehensive, efficient advice without the typical overhead.
Passionate about helping entrepreneurs navigate risk, Carter and his wife Christina are launching Laweez, a mentorship program to guide the next generation of innovative lawyers. Today, he’s here to share insights that protect what you’ve worked so hard to build.
Shawn Keating – Insurance Broker
Shawn represents Costen Insurance and is proud to be part of today’s conversation.
As a licensed insurance broker, Shawn focuses on commercial, property, and auto insurance — working closely with businesses to tailor the right coverage.
Beyond the paperwork, Shawn thrives on community connection, serving as a director for the Cochrane and Area Chamber of Commerce. He’s passionate about supporting local businesses and helping them protect their futures.
Davy Joly – Wealth Advisor
Originally from Paris, Davy’s Canadian adventure began 19 years ago, leading him to the Yukon where he spent 16 years owning and managing businesses in tourism and technology. Over the last decade, he’s been a wealth advisor in the Yukon before moving to Cochrane in 2022 to open De Thomas Wealth Management.
Davy’s entrepreneurial spirit, combined with his personal journey as an immigrant, homeowner, and father of two, shapes his approach to wealth management. He’s passionate about helping others find balance, build financial security, and achieve their dreams — drawing from real-life experience to guide his clients with empathy and insight.
Nick Townson – Associate, Fletcher Mudryk LLP
Nick helps small businesses from their first steps to their final exits. Whether it’s deciding between incorporation or sole proprietorship, or navigating growth challenges, Nick is driven by building lasting, genuine relationships with his clients — making their success his own.
With 10 years as a CPA, he’s worked across industries from agriculture and oil & gas to retail, construction, and nonprofits. Outside the office, Nick values time with his daughter, girlfriend, and dog, enjoying gardening, hiking, baking, golfing, and soaking up the outdoors. Nick is proud to call Cochrane home.
Risky Business: Because protecting your business—and your people—is the smartest move you’ll make.
