The Southbow Landing Community
Occupying nearly 550 acres in River Heights, Southbow Landing is the largest single Neighbourhood Plan in Cochrane's history, and when complete would add nearly 9,000 people to Cochrane. In the works since 2012, the Southbow Landing Neighbourhood Plan was approved by Cochrane Council in late 2015. One of many unique features of the plan is the incorporation of a large "Employment Centre" - something that has been identified as strategically important to the Town of Cochrane in its growth management planning for several years. A great deal of thought, discussion and planning has gone into the Employment Centre, yet it still isn't completely defined. Please join James Scott – VP Planning for PBA Land/Philco Farms – for a presentation and discussion about this and other elements of the planned Southbow Landing project. It will be an opportunity to find out more, and offer your thoughts about the plan.
Philco Farms and PBA Land & Development
Philco Farms Ltd. has owned the land that will become Southbow Landing for nearly 50 years. A small family company, Philco Farms was started by Joe Phillips, a successful and community-minded energy industry pioneer from West Virginia who had a passion for the western ranching and farming way of life that is celebrated in Cochrane. Also a family business, PBA Land & Development Ltd. is the Calgary-based sister company to Philco Farms, and development manager for the Southbow project. Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015, PBA Land has deep business and social roots in the Calgary region as a landlord and developer of commercial properties.
James Scott, VP of Planning - PBA Land & Development
An urban planner by training, James joined PBA Land as VP of Planning in August 2015, having previously held the position of Discipline Lead for Stantec Consulting's planning practices in their Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria offices. James has been closely involved in various capacities on the Philco Farms lands and Southbow Landing project for nearly 10 years. His 20+ years’ experience with community planning and land development approvals ranges from the 60 acre urban redevelopment of Calgary's East Village to the 2,000 acre Three Sisters Mountain Village resort community in Canmore.
