Position Overview:

The Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Cochrane, Alberta, is a leadership role responsible for managing the Chamber’s operations, driving strategic initiatives, and building strong relationships within the community. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational abilities, superior written and verbal communication skills, significant event planning experience, and exceptional relationship-building and networking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Organizational Leadership:

  • Oversee daily operations and ensure effective management of resources.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to meet the Chamber's goals, in collaboration with the Board.
  • Manage the annual budget, ensuring financial health and transparency.

2. Communication:

  • Act as the primary spokesperson, effectively conveying the Chamber's mission and objectives in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Maintain robust communication with members, stakeholders, and the media.
  • Produce high-quality written materials, including reports, newsletters, and press releases.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly report of activity, tasks, goals and achievements. 

3. Event Planning and Management:

  • Plan and execute events such as business forums, networking events, and community activities.
  • Ensure events are well-organized, within budget, and meet desired goals.
  • Collaborate with vendors, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure successful events.

4. Relationship Building and Networking:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Chamber members, local businesses, government officials, and community leaders.
  • Engage in networking opportunities to promote the Chamber and its initiatives.
  • Represent the Chamber at various events to enhance its visibility and influence.

5. Membership Development:

  • Develop and implement strategies for member recruitment and retention.
  • Address member needs and provide valuable resources and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive community among members.


  • Proven experience in a leadership role, beneficial if experienced in taking direction and reporting directly to a Board.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and execution.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
  • Proficient technical skills – including MS365 and social media platforms. While post secondary education may be an asset, relevant experience will be highly valued.
